Amabie Egg Kokeshi with stand

Egg Kokeshi - about 3.5cm (height) x 3cm (width)

Wooden stand - about 8cm (long) x 3.5cm (width) x 6cm (height)

Amabie is a mermaid-like creature from Japanese legend. It has long hair, a beak, a fish body and three legs (fins). It emerges from the sea and can protect harvests and get rid of plagues. Legend has it that if an epidemic spreads, as long as Amabie's portrait is shown to the sick people, their illnesses will be cured.

Kokeshi is made from raw wood dried in the north wind, cut into round shapes, ground and painted. A finished product of kokeshi requires dozens of processes, relying on the skillful skills of the craftsmen.

The wood used in Usaburo Kokeshi, such as mizuki, chestnut, zelkova, and cherry wood, is produced in the forests of Gunma Prefecture. Using growing trees can promote the circulation of the forest and contribute to a healthy forest circulation.

From the traditional kokeshi of young girls, to kokeshi with different shapes such as the size of a palm, they can be used as interior decorations and gifts in conjunction with festivals. They go beyond the traditional kokeshi framework to bring a fresh feeling and become handicrafts that add color to life. .
